 |
Members >
Staff >
What are the origins of the CDB?
The Government is committed, as part
of the reform of the public service generally, to the renewal
of local government. A key feature in this process of renewal
was the establishment of a Task Force, which was asked to draw
up a model for the integration of the local government and local
development systems. The establishment of a County/City Development
Board in each Local Authority Area was the core recommendation
of the Task Force.
What is the Policy Context for the CDB?
This Task Force was called the 'Task
Force on the Integration of Local Government and Local Development
Systems'. The 1st Report of the Task Force was published in August
1998. Subsequent to the Task Force 1st Report, a further document
called 'Preparing the Ground: Guidelines for Progress from Strategy
Groups to County / City Development Boards', was published in April
1999.
Finally, there is the most recent publication of the Task Force,
'A Shared Vision: Strategies for Economic, Social and Cultural Development:
Guidelines for Preparation'.
Who is represented on the Task Force?
The Task Force is chaired by the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local
Government, Mr. Dick Roche, T.D.
Other members include representatives from the following Departments:
