Young Citizen Award 2005

The Young Citizen Award has been run as part of the European Year
of Citizenship through Education. A local Award ceremony was held
on Monday 20th February 2006 at 8p.m. in Glór, Ennis, where
there was a large turnout. The Young Citizen Award was organised
in Clare by the County Development Board.
Cllr. Pat Hayes Cathaoirleach of Clare County Development Board
and chair of the assessment committee stated “a total of 14
applications have been approved for the Award in Clare, this
represents 118 young people. Clare County Development is delighted
to be recognising the work and contribution of young people in their
local communities and/or the international community.”
He continued “this Award acknowledges young people (aged
12-25) who are involved in their local communities through active
citizenship projects. Activities that the young people of Clare
have been involved in include environmental work, improving your
Environment, caring for older people, support for developing countries,
caring for people with disabilities/special needs, developing facilities
for young people.”
Three lucky Awardees have been selected out of a national lottery
to attend the national Award Ceremony hosted by the President of
Ireland, Mary McAleese in Áras an Uachtaraín on the
Tuesday 14th March 2006, these are the:
- Hub Organising Committee
- Youthreach Milltown Malbay
- Environmental Club, St. Caimin’s Community School
